I'm mad as hell... and I'm not going to take it any more!
The Olympics in Vancouver are starting to annoy people more and more. I think some of it relates to what is perceived as relentless protection of the corporate side of the games - the logo, the picture that the TV cameras will see - and relatively little focus on the human side. Recently this has been thrown into profile by the various plans for protesters and how surveillance will affect people's civil rights.
A few years ago I was on a (packed) bus heading through town. A guy got on and was a real loudmouth, but people just shifted over and let him go on.
He started picking on one kid and eventually somebody suggested that he give it up. The bully punched that guy. The formerly passive and tolerant bus rose up en masse and ejected the bully from the bus.
I think the IOC/Olympics people have been throwing their weight around in Vancouver - perhaps used to the way that other cities just "took it." And I think Vancouverites have just about had it. Up. To. Here. And they might just throw them off the bus.
Remember that scene in Network, where the TV anchor urges people to throw open their windows and say, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" I think we're getting to that stage around here.
