CJC SUBSCRIPTIONS REPORT MAY, 2011, FOR 2010

Subscriptions Numbers: • Dec 2009: 351 print & print+online, 59 online only = 410 • May 2010: 351 print & print+online, 60 online only = 411 (Note: just 35 online in 2007.) • Dec 2010: 314 print & print+online; 71 online only = 385

Notes Regarding Numbers: • Several cancellations (ca. 20) in 2009-2011 of long-standing, US library subscriptions, due to severe budget cuts • Important to note that growth in new subscriptions is still strong (see below)

Note: I believe some of this loss in subscriptions can be recovered this year through some extensive marketing, on my part, to international institutions and also to special interest groups and agencies that may have a particular interest in the special issues. Special issues tend to sell more subscriptions and single-issue copies.

Subscription numbers are always in flux. Requests for new subscriptions arrive throughout the year.

New Subscriptions: • 38 new subscriptions of all types in 2010 (33 in 2009) • New subscribers mainly Canadian Individuals and foreign institutions outside of the USA • Foreign growth came mainly from India and China. • To date in 2011 there have been 13 new subscriptions • New 2011 subscribers mainly Canadian individuals, contributors, and some institutional ones outside of CJC’s traditional net of university libraries: eg. the Canada School of Public Service National Library (2010), College of Early Childhood Education (Communications Dept), Toronto (2011), Northern Ontario School of Medicine (Communications Unit) (2011), and a PR firm (2011).

Growth in Online Subscriptions: • Number of online only subscriptions growing steadily • Print subscriptions still favoured by institutions • More switches to online only in 2010.

Single issue sales: • Single issue sales to contributors were strong for 2010 (ca $420)

Subscription Rates: • Rates were held at that of 2009 for 2010
