- Thoughts on teaching by Richard Smith — last modified 2005-09-28 13:14
- When I applied for tenure I had to write three stories: one on research, one on teaching, and one on service. This is an excerpt from the one I wrote on teaching. It is a bit dated now (circa 2000).

- Surveillance Courses by Richard Smith — last modified 2006-05-01 18:07
- I have taught my fourth year course, Issues in an information society, as a theme course focused on surveillance. I am also proposing a new course, with fellow SFU professor Gary McCarron, on surveillance in cinema. This folder contains course outlines and other supporting material - including course outlines from other instructors - for both of these courses.
- Why take 253 as a podcast? by Richard Smith — last modified 2006-07-30 19:02
- I prepared a podcast about taking 253 as a podcast, but if you can't read the powerpoints on your screen (e.g., ipod nano), then you might like the PDF version. Here it is. This is how the regular course will work, too - you'll get a "play along" version of the lecture AND a PDF version suitable for printing (or framing... ahem).
- Description of Teaching Philosophy by Richard Smith — last modified 2006-10-25 09:49
- A nomination for a teaching award asked if I would write a description of my teaching philosophy. As usually seems to be the case, being asked to articulate something brings forth the implicit and makes it explicit.
